In four days, Great Wizard Hale Verpheus's grand funeral will be held in Laslan. Before going to the funeral, I visited Talandre to celebrate my memories with my master. By all accounts, Master was originally a fairly ordinary wizard from the Lightbringer Society. He trained while guarding of the Einar Temple. But when the Shadowmancers invaded Einar Temple, Deluzhnoa, who was guarding the temple with him, acquired a forbidden power. That led to a frenzy which in turn changed Master's life forever. Master was a reticent man, a natural follower who liked to keep his head down and do his duties without a word. However, as there was no one else to do the job, it was up to him to gather and ultimately lead the team that would stop Deluzhnoa's frenzy. After years of effort, he and six other wizards managed to seal Deluzhnoa away. But he did not stop there. Having risen to the challenge of leadership, Master went on to establish Venelux, a magical research center, and became the first rector of the organization.

The Lightbringer Society historically condemned the use of dark magic and stopped its spread through the imposition of strict rules and monitoring of the Shadowmancers. Venelux argued that new magic must be aggressively supplied and further developed in order to actively suppress the spread of dark magic. Master repeatedly said that he founded Venelux because of Deluzhnoa. The tragedy of Deluzhnoa happened because of Shadowmancers and dark magic, and he realized that training institutions such as Venelux were necessary to keep such things from happening again. In keeping with his wishes, Venelux trained genius wizards every year, and he himself never stopped researching. His efforts led to the development of what were at the time revolutionary magic schematics for healing and protection that are now standard. It is hard to deny his role in what Venelux has achieved. After achieving so many great feats, he passed on. He was a man who stayed humble until the end, despite all the praise he received. He was always true to himself. He will be remembered forever in our hearts. - George Wonder, first apprentice of Hale Verpheus
