Welcome to our guide for the Greatsword weapon in Throne & Liberty.

In this guide, we will explain the basics of how to use the Greatsword, useful skills and synergies, and the strengths and weaknesses of this weapon type.

Greatsword Overview

The Greatsword is the weapon of choice for players who prefer to deal damage in melee range with slow but powerful attacks. This weapon is good for sustained DPS in PvE, excellent at dealing burst damage in PvP, and comes with good defensive buffs that help you to survive. The main weakness of the Greatsword is its complete lack of ranged potential - you might want to offset this by pairing it with a Longbow or Crossbow.

Greatsword Key Skills

Greatsword has plenty of great skills for damaging enemies. Some of the most important skills are listed below.

  • Valiant Brawl - Attack three times in a row. This skill is great for DPS because of its multiple attacks and short cooldown. It's one of the first skills you unlock, so it's great for levelling up.
  • Stunning Blow - Deals some damage, with an 80% chance to stun the target. This skill is useful for tanks, who frequently need to stun enemies to protect their team from certain attacks and mechanics. PvP players will also want to stun their enemies, and DPS players can combo this with the next skill on this list for bonus damage.
  • Death Blow - Deals heavy damage. The damage is 30% higher when used against a Stunned, Shocked, Bound or Sleeping enemy. You can use it immediately after Stunning Blow to trigger the bonus damage reliably.
  • Robust Constitution (Passive) - Boosts your HP and HP Regen, helping you to survive.
  • Cold Warrior (Passive) - Gain extra Heavy Attack and Critical Chance against Stunned enemies.
  • Indomitable Armour - Chance to increase your Defense stats when you are hit, stacking up to 3 times.

Best Skill Combo for the Greatsword

The Greatsword has a powerful combo that can deal huge damage to a single-target. It requires you to land four skills in a row so it won't work every time, but it's worth learning this combo and using it when possible. The steps of the combo are:

  1. Stunning Blow - Start the combo by using Stunning Blow to Stun your enemy.
  2. Death Blow - Use Death Blow to deal heavy damage to the Stunned opponent.
  3. Ascending Slash - Deals some damage, and has an 80% of knocking a Stunned enemy Prone.
  4. Guillotine Blade - This is a skill that already deals massive single-target damage. Using it against a Prone enemy increases the damage even more

You can simplify this combo by removing Death Blow or by removing Ascending Slash and Guillotine Blade. This will reduce the damage of the combo but make it easier to pull off.

While this can be very strong, don't become a one-trick pony and revolve your entire playstyle around this combo - the effective cooldown is 24 seconds, so you need to use other skills the rest of the time.

Best Weapon Combos for the Greatsword

Throne & Liberty allows you to equip two weapons at the same time, switching between them freely and slotting Skills and Passives from both weapons.

The weapon types that work best with Greatsword are:

  • Sword & Shield - If you want to make a tank build (or a highly durable PvP build), use the Greatsword with a Sword and Shield. This weapon gives you more defensive buffs, even more crowd control potential and the ability to taunt enemies.
  • Daggers - Use the Daggers to gain more mobility, the ability to become invisible and to significantly increase your Critical Chance and Critical Damage, making your already hard-hitting skills even more deadly.
  • Longbow - While the Longbow doesn't have the most natural synergy with the Greatsword, it is another strong weapon in its own right. If you are uncomfortable with being confined to melee range only, you can use the Longbow to gain more versatility, becoming able to deal good damage from any range.
