In this guide, we will explain what Buffs and Debuffs are in TL, how they work and what they do. We will also include a list of the buffs and debuffs that are available to players in Throne & Liberty. For more guides about a variety of topics in TL, please check our Throne & Liberty Guides Database. What are Buffs in Throne & Liberty? Buffs are effects that make a character stronger, usually be either improving their defenses, recovery, or by making their attacks more powerful. Some buffs are applied to yourself via your Skills, whereas others are applied to other players, a job which mostly comes down to Healers in group play. There are also some buffs that can affect PvE enemies - these are typically related to a mechanic, and figuring out how to avoid or remove the buff from the enemy is the key to winning the fight in these situations. Don't underestimate the importance of buffs in Throne & Liberty. They might not always look impressive when you read them on the tooltip, but stacking multiple buffs can make player characters significantly stronger, and in organized group play (either PvE or PvP) this is especially important. What are Debuffs in Throne & Liberty? Debuffs are the opposite of buffs. They are effects that make a player or enemy weaker. In PvE, debuffs that make enemies more vulnerable to damage are usually favoured, but in PvP there is more use for debuffs that also decrease enemy damage output, movement speed and healing. While buffs are mostly the responsibiltiy of the healer in group play, debuffs are more widely available. Many players will have a debuff that their weapon combination excels are applying, such as Bind from Longbow or Poison from Daggers, and even DPS players will be applying these debuffs a lot. Good Tanks and Healers will also look for ways to debuff enemies when its reasonable and helpful to do so. Some debuffs in Throne & Liberty deal damage over time to enemies, such as Poison and Curse. There are also some synergies available, typically activated by Passive Skills. An example of this is the Vampiric Contract passive in the Wand & Tome skill set, which redistributes a portion of damage dealt to Cursed enemies as healing. When planning your build, make sure you read through your Skill and Passive tooltips careful to identify any potential synergies between your Skills and certain debuffs. Some PvE enemies also apply debuffs to players, particularly in boss fights. Some of these debuffs are an inconvenience, while others can cause the group to wipe if they are not understood and properly counteracted. Debuffs usually last for a set amount of time, and can be stacked several times to make the effect stronger. The Wand & Tome is one of the best weapons for both buffing and debuffing in Throne & Liberty Throne & Liberty Buffs List Below is a list of Buffs available to players in Throne & Liberty, and an explanation of what they do. Throne & Liberty Debuffs List Below is a list of Debuffs available in Throne & Liberty, and an explanation for each one. There are some debuffs that are only applied to boss enemies (or placed on players by bosses) due to their mechanics, and those aren't included here. Stun - A Stunned target cannot move or take actions. Collision: Push - The target is pushed away and Stunned, preventing them from taking actions. It has the same limitations as a Stun and also makes them more vulnerable to some attacks. Provoke - Forces the victim to attack whoever Provoked them. Essential for Tanks. Bind - A Bound target cannot move, but is still allowed to make attacks against targets within range. Shackle - A version of Bind that applies to targets immune to Bind. It slows them down instead of stopping them and allows skills and passives dependent on Bind to still activate. Sleeping - Similar to Stun. A Sleeping target is unable to do anything. Most attacks against a Sleeping enemy will be a guaranteed Critical Hit, but will wake them up. Weaken - Weaken is a broad term that includes many different debuffs in Throne & Liberty. The tooltip of the skill in question will explain what the Weaken does. Usually Weaken effects will reduce one or more of the enemy's stats, making them more vulnerable to damage or making their attacks weaker. Weaken: Poison - Deals damage over time to the target. Can be stacked up to 20 times. Weaken: Thunderclouds - Decreases Melee, Ranged and Magic Endurance. Stacks up to 20 times. Weaken: Curse - A subgroup of Weaken effects belonging to the Wand & Tome weapon type. Curses deal damage over time, and sometimes apply other stat debuffing effects to the target. Active Curses can be converted to an instant burst of damage by the Curse Explosion skill. Weaken: Burning - Applies damage over time, and synergises with some Skills belonging to the Staff weapon type. Fatal Stigma - Reduces the target's Healing. Detonating Mark - Accumulates damage dealt to the target while the mark is active, then detonates when the timer expires, dealing a portion of the accumulated damage. Available from the Mortal Mark skill. Deadly Marker - A mark on an enemy that increases Hit and Critical Hit chance for those attacking the marked enemy. Cursed Nightmare - Reduces Movement and Attack Speed, then applies Sleeping when it expires. Time for Punishment - Reduces the target's Damage Resistance. Frost - Makes the target more vulnerable to Lightning attacks, allowing them to spread to nearby targets. Wet - Harmless on its own, but makes the target more vulnerable to Lightning attacks, allowing them to spread to nearby targets. Petrification: Freeze - Temporarily freezes the target, preventing them from moving or attacking.
