Sword & Shield Weapon Class Guide - Throne & Liberty

Andrew 2 months ago

Welcome to our guide for the Sword & Shield weapon in Throne & Liberty.

In this guide, we will explain the basics of how to use the Sword & Shield, useful skills and synergies, and the strengths and weaknesses of this weapon type.

Sword & Shield Overview

The Sword & Shield is the most defensive weapon type in Throne & Liberty. While you can deal some DPS with this weapon, it is most suited for tanks. Groups in co-op PvE content such as dungeons will usually have one tank who has the job of gathering up enemies, taunting the dangerous enemies, and protecting allies by giving them defensive buffs and stunning enemies to prevent them from attacking.

The Sword & Shield is the most common weapon of choice for tanks. You can also use it as a defensive option in PvP.

Sword & Shield Key Skills

In this section, we'll outline some of the best skills and passives for the Sword & Shield in Throne & Liberty.

  • Provoking Roar - An AoE taunt that has a 70% chance to provoke nearby enemies. Very useful for keeping aggro on several enemies at once.
  • Chain Hook - Pull an enemy to you. This skill is handy for stacking up several enemies so DPS players can easily hit them all with AoE skills.
  • Stalwart Bastion - Gives you a Damage Reduction buff, which is important for surviving the most powerful attacks from bosses.
  • Skilful Evasion (Passive) - Buffs your Evasion, with a larger buff against Provoked enemies.
  • Spectrum of Agony (Passive) - Hitting a Provoked enemy extends the duration of Provoke
  • Aegis Shield (Passive) - Boosts your Defence based on your Shield Block Chance.

There are many more skills and passives for the Sword & Shield. To view them all, see our Sword & Shield Weapon Overview page.

Best Weapon Combos for Sword & Shield

Throne & Liberty allows you to equip two weapons at the same time, switching between them freely and slotting Skills and Passives from both weapons.

The weapon types that work best with Sword & Shield are:

  • Greatsword - A great fit for a tank's secondary weapon. It has Passives that give you additional defensive buffs, and comes with Skills like Stunning Blow that give you more options for stunning enemies. It also lets you deal more damage than is otherwise possible on a tanky build, which is handy for a PvP build or if you want to do quests or solo dungeons on your tank without making major changes to it.
  • Wand & Tome - Players who want to maximise their tank's support ability can use the Wand & Tome as their second weapon. This weapon allows you to buff and heal your allies, and debuff enemies. Sword & Shield and Wand & Tome are the lowest damage weapons in the game, however, so using both of them at the same time will make your character poorly suited to solo adventuring.
  • Daggers - A less popular combo, the Daggers nevertheless add some value for a Sword & Shield player. You can get additional Evasion with the Shadow Walker passive, and debuff enemy Defence with the Destructive Fang passive. The Daggers are also a great combination if you want to use your Sword & Shield in PvP, due to their strong damage potential and the added mobility from skills like Shadow Strike and Camouflage Cloak.
